The Tertiary Access Payment (TAP) aims to encourage students in inner regional, outer regional and remote Australia to access high-level tertiary study (Certificate IV or above) in the year immediately following Year 12, rather than taking a gap year. Payment rates will vary In 2023, eligible students from outer regional, remote, and very remote areas will continue to receive up to $5,000 in two payments, and students from inner regional areas will receive a single payment of $3,000. Eligibility requirements
The TAP will be available for school leavers who are:
- From an inner regional, outer regional, remote or very remote area (eligibility can be checked by using the Student Regional Area Search Tool)
- Are relocating to study at UNSW at least 90 minutes by public transport from their family home
- Be aged 22 or under at time of enrolment
- Be undertaking an undergraduate degree in the year following completion of Year 12 or equivalent.
- Be studying face to face, or in dual delivery method, for at least part of the course and enrolled in at least 75 per cent of a full time study load over a 12 month period. You will need to enrol in 36-48 UOC across the three standard terms with at least one course enrolment in each term.A Full-time Status Tool is available to help you plan your year and ensure that you meet the full-time requirement in each term.
- Be enrolled full time in a Diploma or Bachelor Degree, with a course duration of at least one academic year
- Have parent(s) or guardian(s) with a combined income of less than $250,000
- Meet Australian citizenship or residency requirements
Selection
From 1 January 2023 all applications will be via Services Australia
Along with your application, you must submit the following supporting documentation:
- Evidence of Australian citizenship, permanent residency (if Newly Arrived Resident's Waiting Period has been served), holding a permanent humanitarian visa or being a New Zealand citizen meeting Australian Residence rules under section 7 of the Social Security Act 1991
- Proof of residence in an inner regional, outer regional, remote or very remote area in Australia
- Indicative evidence of where the Applicant will relocate to at point of application, followed by confirmation of the new address once the Applicant has relocated
- Evidence of parental income such as tax returns (preferred), payslips, a letter from employer or accountant
