Outline

This high school leaver scholarship is for students interested in traffic and transport issues who will be enrolling in a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering at UNSW (UNSW Code: 3620) in S1 2014.

(Applicants intending to enrol in a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering or in a dual degree offered by the School are not eligible for consideration).

The recipient will be required to undertake 10 - 12 weeks of work experience with the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) during the summer vacation periods at the end of Years 1, 2 and 3. If the recipient is from a rural area, the RMS will endeavour, where possible, to offer the work experience placement in close proximity to their home base. The scholarship payments in Years 1 to 3 will continue throughout the summer period, but no additional payments for the work experience will be made by the RMS.

In the final year of study the recipient will be expected to undertake research on a topic of relevance to the RMS. The RMS will provide support and access to materials and expertise for the thesis.

Applicants must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents.

Applicants must be completing the NSW HSC (or equivalent) in the year of application. Students who have undertaken a GAP year are also eligible to apply providing they have not undertaken any tertiary study.

Female, rural and indigenous applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for this scholarship.
