Outline
The Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) provides scholarships for female students studying specific Engineering and Science Undergraduate degrees at UNSW. Up to 4 scholarships are available for current female students studying full-time in one of the following programs in the Faculty of Engineering or Faculty of Science. Aerospace Engineering Bioinformatics Computer Engineering Computer Science (BSc) Computer Science/Science Electrical Engineering Electrical Engineering BE ME Engineering/Science Engineering/Computer Science Food Science and Technology Mechanical Engineering Mechatronics Naval Architecture Software Engineering Advanced Mathematics Advanced Science Materials Science and Engineering Nanotechnology Science Applicants must be female, Australian citizens and able to gain security clearance at the level of Negative Vetting 1/'secret'. Scholarship recipients must maintain enrolment in a normal full-time load (24 units of credit per semester) in one of the above programs and will be paid subject to satisfactory academic progress (credit grade in all courses with no fail grades). Scholarship recipients who have completed a minimum of 2 years of their undergraduate degree are encouraged to apply and participate in DSTO's Summer Vacation Scholarship (SVS) program for a period of 12 weeks between each year of study. Recipients will be required to undertake a project of relevance to DSTO with co-supervision by DSTO scientists. Recipients will also have access to a DSTO mentor and may be required to themselves mentor other scholarship recipients at UNSW or other universities. DSTO scholars will be expected to assist DSTO in the development and improvement of the DSTO's scholarship and mentoring program and with the promotion of work opportunities at DSTO.

Selection will be made on the basis of: > Academic merit > Aptitude and interest in the chosen area of study > Personal qualities (e.g. demonstrated interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, communication skills, creativity, innovation and self-motivation) > Preference may be given to a student from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background.
