Outline

This scholarship has been established to assist a high school leaver with a disability to undertake studies in the Australian School of Business at UNSW and to provide them with the opportunity to undertake work experience with Transport NSW.

To be eligible for consideration applicants must have a moderate to severe disability supported by documentation from a registered health professional. Preference will be given to applicants who are in receipt of a Centrelink allowance or pension.

The definition of disability is based on the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1992 and includes:
- deaf/hearing impairment
- blind/vision impairment
- physical disability
- specific learning disability
- psychiatric disability
- acquired brain injury
- chronic medical conditions

Applicants must be completing the NSW HSC (or equivalent) in the year of application. Students who have completed their schooling and who have then taken a break for one or two years are also eligible to apply providing they have not undertaken any tertiary study in the meantime.

Applicants must be intending to enrol in either a Bachelor of Commerce or a Bachelor of Economics in 2014. Applicants intending to enrol in a dual degree offered in combination with either of these degrees are also eligible for consideration, but if approved the tenure of the scholarship will remain at a maximum of three years.

The successful recipient will be required to undertake 10 - 12 weeks of work experience with Transport NSW during the summer vacation periods at the end of Years 1 and 2. At the conclusion of the scholarship Transport NSW may offer the recipient the opportunity to participate in their cadetship program.

The scholarship is tenable for three years and has a total value of $45,000 ($15,000 per annum). In Years 1 and 2 the recipient will receive $10,000 during the academic year and $5,000 over the summer vacation period. In Year 3 the recipient will receive $15,000 during the academic year. No additional payments will be made for the work experience over the summer breaks.
