Students must apply through the UNSW Scholarships website to be considered for this scholarship. however, Students must ALSO apply via the Educational Access Scheme (EAS) by 6 January 2016.

The John M. Green Scholarships in Law was established to award a scholarship to students from socio economically disadvantaged backgrounds, to undertake undergraduate combined degrees in law.

It is intended that this scholarship will cover the costs of the recipient students living and study expenses such as accommodation, transport, books or computer equipment.

It is intended that having these major costs of education met by the scholarships, recipients will be able to focus on their studies and gain the maximum benefit of the experiences offered at UNSW.

It is also intended that recipients will gain the benefit of career related skills through the various experiential learning programs offered by UNSW Law School.

These include, for example, the clinical courses at Kingsford Legal Centre, internships, mooting competitions and international exchanges.

Each scholarship will normally have a value of $20,000 per annum and will be awarded for the minimum duration of an undergraduate combined Bachelor of Laws degree (5 years). The total value of each scholarship will be $100,000.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  1. be proposing to commence full-time undergraduate study in a combined Bachelor of Laws degree at UNSW;
  2. have applied for admission to UNSW through the University Admission Centre (UAC);
  3. apply for the Educational Access Scheme (EAS) provided through UAC;
  4. be ACCESS eligible with one of the grounds for eligibility being financial hardship; and
  5. attain an HSC or equivalent score high enough to be eligible to enrol and be accepted into the combined Bachelor of Laws degree program at UNSW.

Applicants will be able to utilise any educational access points that they receive as part of their EAS application or any other bonus points for which they are eligible in order to gain entry to the combined Bachelor of Laws program at UNSW.

Selection

Each applicant will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate financial need.

Consideration will also be given to each of the following circumstances:

  • Disrupted Schooling;
  • Severe family disruption;
  • Excessive family responsibilities;
  • Difficult home environment; and
  • Illness or disability.

Consideration will be given to academic performance and commitment to undertaking an undergraduate combined Bachelor of Laws degree at UNSW.

Interviews

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview.
