Outline

The purpose of the Gift is to award a student completing a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws combined degree majoring in Film Studies/Law, Art Theory/Law, which includes visual arts, or in a wider field of creative arts within the combined Arts/Law program (such as media, music, theatre), an internship with an international arts-related organisation such as a film production company, art gallery, museum, performing arts organisation, arts festival or other arts entity nominated by the student and agreed to by the Donor and Dean of the Faculty of Law.

The organisation providing the internship will provide public liability and any other relevant insurance to cover award recipients during their internship.

The terms of the internship will be defined by the Director of Experiential Learning in the Faculty of Law, in accordance with the requirements of LAWS 3308/JURD 7308.

Students are responsible for organising their internship with the host organisation. The internship must be approved by the Director of Experiential Learning, UNSW Law or their delegate.

Students must enrol in, and undertake, the subject LAWS 3308/JURD 7308 (UNSW Law Internship), and the internship must comply with the requirements of that subject.

Eligibility

  • A student during their fourth or fifth year of the student’s combined degree
  • Scholarships recipients must be undertaking full-time study in a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws combined degree program, majoring in Film Studies/Law, Art Theory/Law or in a wider field of creative arts within the combined Arts/Law program (such as media, music, theatre)
  • In addition applicants must be eligible to enrol in the subject LAWS 3308/JURD 7308 (UNSW Law Internship). An applicant who has previously completed the subject is not eligible to enrol again in that subject, and is therefore not eligible for the Scholarship or the award.

    Selection

    The successful recipient must be entering the fourth or fifth year of full-time study in a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws combined degree program, majoring in Film Studies/Law or Art Theory/Law.

    Recipients must be enrolled in 24 units of credit.

    The scholarship shall be awarded in accordance with the following criteria:

    • Academic merit;
    • A written statement of up to 250 words addressing why they have chosen to undertake a degree in Film Studies/Law or Art Theory/Law; or in a wider field of creative arts within the combined Arts/Law program (such as media,music,theatre).
    • a written statement of up to 250 words addressing the role of independent artists in challenging socio-political issues.
