Outline

The AGS UNSW Indigenous Law Scholarship was established by the AGS (Australian Government Solicitor), to provide a scholarship to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander UNSW student. The scholarship is made up of $7,000 to be provided to the student as well as an offer of casual employment for the term of the scholarship.

It is intended that the financial support of the scholarship and the opportunity of employment with AGS will enable the scholarship recipient to focus on his or her studies, gain the maximum benefit of the experiences offered at UNSW and gain valuable administrative work experience in a legal environment.

In addition to the Scholarship amount, AGS will offer the scholarship recipient an opportunity to undertake casual paid employment with AGS in an administrative role. That employment will be governed by and subject to an employment contract entered into between the student and AGS.

The scholarship recipient may be offered a graduate position with AGS upon graduation from UNSW, but such an offer is not guaranteed. The scholarship recipient is not obliged to accept an offer of a graduate position with AGS, should AGS make that offer.
