Outline

The Climate Change Research Centre (CCRC) offers a range of opportunities for talented students to complete stimulating and challenging research projects at honours level, many of which would be an ideal stepping stone into ongoing postgraduate research. Students interested in undertaking honours in the CCRC have the opportunity to apply for an ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science honours scholarship. The ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science is an international research consortium of five Australian universities, of which UNSW is the lead institution, and a suite of outstanding national and international Partner Organizations. The Centre’s focus, Climate System Science, is the quantitative study of the climate system designed to enable modeling of the future of the climate system. It is built on a core of the sciences of the atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere and land surface. It includes the physics, dynamics and biology of these systems, and the flow of energy, water and chemicals between them. Climate System Science is a highly quantitative discipline. Successful students would be most likely those enrolled in the Bachelor of Advanced Science Program, or completing a Bachelor of Science with a consistently strong academic record in relevant courses; in most cases this means having a solid background in maths and physics. Each Scholarship will have a value of up to $7,500 per annum and will be payable in two equal installments subject to satisfactory academic progress which is to be determined by the honours project supervisor and CCRC Honours Coordinator.
