Outline

The Elias Duek-Cohen Urban Design Award was established to encourage undergraduate students in the Faculty of the Built Environment to undertake their final year thesis on a topic concerned with making towns and cities more beautiful and more workable.

The thesis should take into account social, economic and administrative practicalities, as well as physical attractiveness.

Topics can focus on design quality in community layouts, landscape projects or urban developments; on one or more individual buildings in their urban context; on urban transport, including facilities for pedestrians and bicycles; or on government or community activities and policies.

Imaginative futuristic concepts, as well as historical studies, would also be valid topics.

Eligibility

Applicants must be full-time students enrolling in the final year of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of the Built Environment that has a major work or thesis as part of its requirement.

Selection

Applicants will be assessed on the basis of academic merit, and the statement outlining the reasons for undertaking the proposed thesis or project.

The Selection Committee may request an applicant to provide further information, either orally or in writing.
