The Robertson Scholars Leadership Program seeks to assist students who have demonstrated passion and potential to become great leaders in college and beyond.
The Program was established by Julian and Josie Robertson of New York in 2000, and provides opportunities for students to study at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the USA and to enjoy the benefits of both institutions. During the second semester of their second year, Robertson Scholars enrolled at Duke will be able to live and learn at UNC-Chapel Hill, and UNC-Chapel Hill Robertson Scholars to live and learn at Duke.
Up to two places are offered to talented Australian undergraduate students each year.
Purpose
The Robertson Scholars Program is not just a scholarship; nor is it just a leadership development program. The Robertson Scholars Program is a comprehensive, long term investment in our Scholars' futures.
The Robertson Scholars Program aims to foster collaboration between Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill. In addition, it aims to provide an opportunity for students with proven academic ability to benefit from what the two universities have to offer.
Robertson Scholars are expected to participate in the Robertson Scholarships academic enhancement activities, including regular school year and summer programs.
Value and Tenure
The Program valued at over $66,000 per annum provides full tuition, room and board. Robertson Scholars at UNC will receive an additional living stipend. In addition, support is provided for three summers of service, research and travel.
This award is for a four year undergraduate program, provided the Scholar maintains good academic performance and conducts himself/herself in accordance with the expectations of the Program at either Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill.
The Scholarship is available for students of most courses of study including pre-medicine and pre-law. Study in medicine and law past undergraduate level is excluded.
The Scholarship may be held concurrently with any other bursary or scholarship, provided that the rules of the other award allow this.
The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is awarded.

Other Information
All applicants must complete the following:
- Scholarship Application form via the Roberston Scholars Leadership Program;
- Common Application (student form), available online at Common Application Website for admission to either or both of Duke University and University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill at the same time as submitting a scholarship application; and
- Standardized testing. Please note that SAT and two SAT Subject Tests or ACT with Writing must be completed by all Shortlisted Applicants in January 2020 if not already undertaken. The International SAT registration dates can be found on the SAT CollegeBoard website while the ACT Registration can be found on the ACT website.
Applicants will be advised in early January 2020 if they have made shortlist of applicants.

As part of your application, you will be required to provide:
- A certified copy of birth certificate and proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency
- Certified copies of your academic results to date
- One academic reference
- One personal reference

Selection
The Robertson Scholars Leadership Program seeks students who have demonstrated the outstanding potential to become great leaders and play significant and impactful roles in their communities and society, today and in the future.
Robertson Scholars pursue a range of passions, academic interests, and personal and professional goals. While each Scholar brings their own skill sets, strengths, and personalities to the program, they share the following traits:

- Collaborative Spirit
In determining the suitability of a candidate, the Selection Committee shall have regard to the academic ability of the candidates as evidenced by their performance in the HSC or equivalent senior school exams (an ATAR or equivalent of +95).
The award will be made on the recommendation of a Selection Committee convened by UNSW.
The selection committee's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into following the selection meeting. If, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, no applicant of sufficient merit has applied for the award in any year, then the award shall not be offered in that year.
Ultimate selection to the Program is contingent upon admission to one or both of Duke or UNC-Chapel Hill, via the Common Application web site. Shortlisted applicants will be required to sit SAT or ACT exams for the purposes of providing information to Duke and UNC Admission offices in January 2020 if they have not already done so prior to submission of their applications. Note that only SAT exams taken after March 2019 are accepted.
Interviews
Short-listed candidates will be invited to attend an interview in Sydney in approx. March 2020. No scholarship will be awarded to anyone who has not attended a personal interview with the committee.
All candidates who are short listed for interview must be prepared (as a result of full prior discussion with their parents or guardians) to travel to Sydney for the interviews and to accept a scholarship if it is offered to them.
