Outline

For over 50 years, New College has continued to build character in each individual who becomes part of the College community. We encourage residents to strive for academic excellence, serve one another and make contributions to the wider community. To assist residents to fulfil these outcomes, New College has developed several equity and merit-based scholarships and bursaries to support residents with specific needs or disadvantages.


Please note all applications are via New College. You do not apply via the UNSW Scholarships website. There are multiple closing rounds, depending on commencement term. Please check the application for details and also see below.

The value of the Scholarships and Bursaries vary in value. Currently a minimum of $500 to $6,000. Please see the New College Scholarships & Bursaries Website for details.

Scholarship & Bursary Application Dates

Commencing residency in Term 3, 2021:

  • T3 (Limited to Bursaries only) applications close 6 September 2021
Dates for commencing residency in Term 1, 2022 (MAIN ROUND):
  • Round 1 applications close 6 September 2021
  • Round 2 applications close 31 January 2022

Scholarship Dates for commencing residency in Term 2, 2022
  • T2 (Limited to Bursaries only) applications close 2 May 2022

Scholarship Dates for commencing residency in Term 3, 2022:
  • T3 (Limited to Bursaries only) applications close 5 September 2022

Eligibility

To be considered, applicants must have been accepted into membership of New College, and typically have experienced some form of educational, economic, and/or social disadvantage. The contributing circumstances could include:

  • financial hardship
  • difficult home/family circumstances
  • rural/remote isolation
  • language difficulties
  • excessive family responsibilities
  • disrupted schooling
  • physical or mental disability
  • serious family illness
  • prolonged illness or condition

  • The scholarships and bursaries offered by New College Communities are presently only available to Australian and New Zealand Residents.
