Outline

The Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarships Program aims to assist high-achieving students from rural or isolated areas commencing studies in the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW.

By applying for the Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarships Program you may be considered for the following scholarships. More scholarships may be added to this list progressively.

Scholarship Value and Duration Program Eligibility
Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarship (UGCE1003)

$12,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program

Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in any Faculty of Engineering degree program.
Luciano Ferracin Memorial Rural Engineering Scholarship (UGCE1171)

$12,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program

Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in any Faculty of Engineering degree program
Graham Painton Rural Engineering Undergraduate Scholarship (UGCE1249)

$12,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program


Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in one of the following degree programs:
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Telecommunications)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical and Manufacturing)

Exclusions: Flexible First Year

The NSK Australia - UNSW Endowment Scholarship (UGCE1047)

$12,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program


Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in the following degree program:
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
Mitsubishi Rural Scholarship in Mining Engineering (UGCE1031)

$12,000 per annum for up to 5 years


Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in the following degree program:
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mining)

Exclusions: Flexible First Year

Project Action Rural Scholarship in Engineering (UGCE1124)

$10,000 per annum for up to 4 years


Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in the following degree program:
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering

Note: Enrolment in a double degree in combination with the above degree is also permissible, but the tenure of the Award will remain at a maximum of 4 years.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria in addition to the program requirements listed above:
  • Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident (including Humanitarian Visa Holders); and
  • Have completed the NSW HSC (or interstate equivalent) or IB in the previous two years prior to commencing at UNSW, provided no tertiary study was undertaken during this period; and
  • Be a rural applicant:

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be assessed on the basis of:
  • Academic Merit
  • Leadership skills (school, workplace or community)
  • Extra-curricular activities (sporting, cultural activities, volunteer/work experience)
  • Aptitude and commitment to studies in an area of Engineering

You must provide evidence supporting the above criteria in your online application. Please refer to the Scholarship Application Supporting Documents for a detailed list of examples.

Interviews

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview on the 23rd of November 2022.
