Outline

The DSTO Undergraduate Scholarship for Females in Science and Engineering is open to female students who will be enrolling full-time in an eligible programs at UNSW.

Scholarship Benefits
Benefits include:
  • Financial support for up to 4 years of full time graduate study.
  • When the scholarship recipient has completed two years of their undergraduate degree they will be encouraged to apply and participate in DSTO's Summer Vacation Scholarship (SVS) program for a period of 12 weeks between each year of study.
  • Recipients will be required to undertake a project of relevance to DSTO with co-supervision by DSTO scientists.
    • Recipients will also have access to a DSTO mentor and may be required to themselves mentor other scholarship recipients at UNSW or other universities.

DSTO scholars will be expected to assist DSTO in the development and improvement of the DSTO's scholarship and mentoring program and with the promotion of work opportunities at DSTO.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be Australian citizen; and
  • Be female; and
  • Be enrolled or intending to enroll in an eligible UNSW undergraduate (single or dual) degree; and
  • Be able to gain security clearance at the level of Negative Vetting 1/'secret'.

Selection

Selection will be made on the basis of:

  • Academic merit
  • Aptitude and interest in the chosen area of study
  • Personal qualities (e.g. demonstrated interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, communication skills, creativity, innovation and self-motivation)
  • Demonstrated achievements in non-academic ventures and where applicable involvement in university and community ventures.

Interviews

Shortlisted applicants may be invited to attend for an interview.
